The Prader-Willi Syndrome International Organization

Recent research results and best practices in caring for patients with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) will be discussed from November 13 to 17 in an international medical event to be held at Cojimar Convention Center, in Havana.

This 5th World Conference of the PWS International will gather doctors, researchers, caregivers, patients and families, in order to share and learn about the treatment and management of that genetic disorder, the organizing committee announced.

Caused by the lack of a gene on chromosome 15, that condition is rare, causes various physical, mental, and emotional problems including decreased muscle strength, low levels of sex hormones and intense anxiety about food, experts refer.

The Prader-Willi Syndrome International Organization and the Cuban Society of Human Genetics are hosting the scientific event, focusing on immunogenomics, genes, the immune system and microbiota, cytogenetics and genomic medicine in the community.

This international event also proposes a program for professional providers and caregivers to learn about different services, consider and develop policies and practices.
