|Recovery of Coffee Production Continues in Guantánamo

Guantánamo, Cuba. - In this Cuban province, which is the second largest producer of the coffee crop in the nation, farmers and agricultural workers from the state institutions are intensifying their works for the recovery of the main crop in the mountains of Guantánamo province.
Now that they are feeling encouraged in Guantánamo, after the granting of the venue for the commemoration of the 59th anniversary of the historic date of July 26, the sowing campaign of the more than 2000 700 hectares planned for the current year are speed, as well as the planting of the necessary shoots to fulfil the plan.
Thus far, they have planted over 600 hectares which is an amount that can be increased, given there are sufficient shoots and the territory is having the in the most favourable months for the soil’s damp that is a factor that guarantees the survival of the plants.
The specialized works such as the sowing, replanting, pruning and cleaning works that contribute to increase the quality and yields of the coffee-plant plantations, is also fulfilled in the mountains located in the easternmost province of the Cuban archipelago.
Engineer Rafael Velazquez Diaz, who works for the Business Group of the Mountain’s Agriculture in Guantánamo, said that in order to achieve a new growth and efficiency during the upcoming coffee harvest, it is being carefully planned its preparation since the end of the previous harvest.
During the previous coffee harvest, the abovementioned province advanced in the works of recovery of that fruit when it had a production of up to two hundred thousand cans above of the plan while planting 1 735 hectares that was regarded as the biggest amount achieved in 15 years.
