Santiago de Cuba plows ahead

Santiago de Cuba. - The bygone days of January bear witness to Santiago de Cuba’s eagerness to prove that nothing is impossible for hard work. They are willing to improve the results of 2011.
There is strength and potentialities in the nine municipalities of the province to avoid failure to fulfill their physical production plans and that is a paramount goal for this year.
Farming all the idle or inefficiently exploited lands is another important task to prove that if we use them adequately, they are enough to meet all of our needs.
The concerned parties will have to keep in mind issues like reducing budgetary deficits and turning them into surplus; further developing local projects; eradicating uncollected and unpaid bills and drafting plans that are not below the real potentialities.
Other matters that must be improved are the image of our cities, including thoroughfares, with emphasis in cleanliness and aesthetics. Cultural, sports and recreational activities should be upgraded in order to rescue the traditions and happiness that have always characterized the people of Santiago.
Unexploited capacities and unachieved levels of efficiency wait in Santiago de Cuba for new and real possibilities that help eradicating slackness and misappropriation. We need to raise our sense of ownership and respect for the people in order to prove in 2012 that Santiago is always Santiago. By: Carlos Sanabria
