Seven Cubans will try to get into semifinals in badminton tourney

Seven Cubans will go in search of their ticket to the single semifinals today in the continuation of the 19th Giraldilla de la Habana international badminton tournament, which will conclude next Sunday 18.

Taymara Oropesa, first seed in the women´s single event, will face her teammate Adaivis Robinson; while another local player, Thalia Mengana, will have a tough opponent in the American Crystal Pan.

In the single men´s, Leodannis Martinez, Cuba´s second best player, will rival his compatriot Ernesto Reyes; while the also local Angel Herrera will clash with American Osvert Riveron.

In addition, the also host Daniel Ferrer will have as opponent Canadian Xiadong Sheng, who in his debut beat 2-1 Cuban Osleni Guerrero, first seed of the contest, defending champion and owner of six individual titles in this competition.

The winners of each of the five events of the 19th Giraldilla de la Habana international badminton tournament will earn 1,700 points for the world ranking.
