Spain awards Historian of Havana Eusebio Leal

The Spanish government awarded today the Grand Cross of the Royal and Distinguished Spanish Order of Charles III, the highest of the civil orders to be granted in Spain, to PhD Eusebio Leal, historian of Havana.

According to Prensa Latina, Leal already has other Spanish decorations, including the Grand Cross of the Order of Isabel the Catholic, granted by the government in 2017 and instituted by Ferdinand VII in 1815.

The Grand Cross recognizes "those extraordinary civil behaviors, carried out by Spanish and foreign persons, that benefit this nation or contribute to favoring its relations of friendship and cooperation with the rest of the international community".

The Spanish Council of Ministers approved a royal decree on Thursday that grants Leal this distinction, one of the oldest in the world.
