HAVANA, Cuba. - Jose Luis Centella, described an anti-Cuba resolution approved by the European Parliament (EP) as an act of political cynicism.

“Besides being a disgrace, the document reflects the European Union’s subordination to the orders of those who want to destroy the Cuban Revolution,” the leader denounced.

Speaking to Prensa Latina news agency, Centella slammed the position of the 27 members of the European bloc and described it as an act of interference in the Caribbean island’s domestic affairs.

He also accused the representatives of the social-democracy and the right wing in the European Parliament of playing a police role which they are not entitled to, and added that they have not even been able to force Washington to lift its economic blockade of Cuba.

According to the leader of the Spanish communists, the European Union’s subordination to the White House’s dictates is reflected in its inability to give Cuba a peer-to-peer treatment and in maintaining in force the so-called Common Position – a series of unilateral sanctions imposed on the island by the European Union in 1996 at the request of the then president of the Spanish government Jose Maria Aznar.

Elsewhere, speaking over the phone with Prensa Latina news agency, Sevim Dagdelen, a socialist deputy in the German Parliament, said the decision of the EP members is “an act of aggression that clearly violates international law.”

Meanwhile, Edgar Goll, the vice president of Netzwerk Kuba, an association of organizations in solidarity with Cuba in Germany, did not rule out the existence of a campaign by the US extreme right wing behind this resolution.

“I have many contacts with scientists in the United States and they tell me of activities of the extreme-right in that country trying to sabotage an eventual rapprochement between Cuba and the European Union,” he told Prensa Latina over the phone.

“The European parliament is not interested in any prisoner in Cuba,” said the president of the Cuba-Germany Friendship Association, Renate Fausten. “They only looked for a pretext to condemn Cuba,” she stressed.

“The European Parliament did not pay attention to the expulsions and detentions in Germany in recent years nor were they interested in the 30,000 Colombians who have been “democratically” killed,” she concluded.
