Special Reasons to Celebrate Carnivals in Matanzas

The 65th anniversary of the founding of Los Munequitos de Matanzas and the 60th of AfroCuba , both outstanding groups that promotes folkloric music, constitute special reasons to celebrate the carnivals in that city ready to celebrate its 325th anniversary.

Los Munequitos de Matanzas and AfroCuba will offer concerts in outdoor spaces for the population to enjoy, announced representatives of the provincial Culture Ministry.

The inaugural gala was held Monday night at Viaducto Square close to the Bay of Matanzas and the population will share the joy of the traditional floats and comparsas and music until Sunday.

The First Vice President of the People’s Power in Matanzas, Mario Sabines said that beer and other beverages and food will be guaranteed for the population in the different areas destined for the fiesta.

Musical groups like Pupy y los que Son Son, Elito Reve y su Charangon, El Nino y la Verdad and Candido Fabre will perform in the Viaducto Square and the Rene Fraga Park, informed Carlos Torrent Molina, provincial Culture director.

The children’s Carnival will also be held in the surrounding area of the Libertad Park on Wednesday at 5pm with social cultural projects, clowns, dancing groups and the awaited huge puppets known as Muñecones.

Teresa Rojas Monzon, First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in Matanzas said that the carnivals will close the summer activities and urged all of the population in the city to participate in the beginning of a successful school year.
