The teaching of the History of Cuba is prioritized in the Cuban schools due to the importance that it has in the formation of the new generations.
It was affirmed by the teacher Norma Pinet Batista who gives this subject in sixth grade of Orlando Pantoja elementary school, located at the East of the capital.
She explained to Radio Rebelde that children who are near 11 and 12 years old generally do not know the history of Cuba and it becomes really important that the teacher could transmit it with the whole passion as possible in order to achieve the total comprehension.
She indicated that one of the ways is throughout the subject-matter “The world in which we live”, in the first cycle, from first to third grades; in fourth grade the primitive community is tackled, then the colony in fifth and the neo-colony and the Revolution in the power, in sixth.
“The students approach themselves to the life of the inhabitants of the Island before the arrival of the Spanish colonizers; they learn their habits, food, the principal productive activities that they did, they also know about the changes that were introduced by the peninsular people with their arrival, like so the first seven towns built in Cuba, and the beginning of the fights for the independence”.
In the other hand, the teachings that are discovered by the historians and experts of the theme in each occurred fact are numerous; it is added to this the knowledge of the personalities that with total lack of interest leaded and gave even their lives in different epochs until reaching the whole independence of the Homeland on January 1st of 1959.
The teacher affirmed categorically that the lesson of history must touch the children heart; it has to be taught as if we were living the moment, transmit it and tell it in order to the students could feel as if the historical fact were happening at the moments that their teacher explains it.
She also explained that in sixth grade it is tackled since 1899 when the American military occupation occurs, until after the triumph of the Revolution in January of 1959. Among many, there are two historical facts, such as they are the preparations of the assault to the Moncada barracks, the own assault, the fruitful prison, besides the crossing and the disembarkation of the Granma yacht.
She added that those historical events transmits to the students humanist and revolutionary values from those who played a leading role such as the sacrifice and lack of interest of those youths for collecting funds in order to take ahead the revolutionary fight; besides the courage demonstrated in face of the danger they ran of being imprisoned, tortured and murdered.
The historical events constitute motivations in order to achieve that the new generations know that in elder epochs there were youths which challenged the danger so that at this moment they could enjoy all the benefits that the Revolution offers them.
It is really important that our origins, what we are and where do we go could be known; the history is one of the elements that help to understand it, without forgetting that in the global strategy of the enemies of the Cuban people the non memory constitute an important element.
Without the knowledge of the history is really difficult to have the sense of orientation in the life, in the policy, in the ideological approaches and in the reason of being- it is affirmed by the experts of the Homeland history.
If we ask ourselves for whom it is good that the peoples do not remember their origins, their past, the struggle for life, the effort of generation for forging a Homeland, an independence, a sense of dignity, the answer would be: to the historical enemies of the Cuban nation, the Yankee imperialism.
It becomes essential that the new generations search and learn the history of their country; that is the engagement that has the teaching of the History of Cuba with each new generation.
