The Parliament President from Cape Verde Begins Official Visit to Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba. - The President of the Parliament of the Republic of Cape Verde, Aristides Raimundo Lima, placed a wreath on Thursday by the monument to Cuba’s National Hero Jose Marti at Havana’s Revolution Square, with which he began his official visit to Cuba.
The top official from the Cape Verde Islands was accompanied by Ramon Pez Ferro, president of the Cuban Parliament’s Commission for International Relations.
Raimundo Lima thanked Cuba for its solidarity toward his country since it became independent in 1975, for its friendship, and for its cooperation in different spheres.
In this regard, he highlighted the help received in terms of education, the work carried out by Cuban doctors and the support of Cuban authorities in the construction of the health system in that African archipelago.
In addition, he expressed his willingness to strengthen exchanges and the training of specialized personnel in the tourist sector, in which the two nations have potentialities, he pointed out.
He also specified the challenges faced by his country in the struggle against poverty and unemployment, and for sustainable development.
During his visit to Cuba, the Parliament President from Cape Verde will meet with his Cuban counterpart, Ricardo Alarcon, with whom he’ll sign an exchange protocol, and with Ricardo Cabrisas, Vice-president of the Council of Ministers.
Cape Verde is an archipelago made up by 10 islands, most of them mountainous, and eight islets in the Atlantic Ocean along the western coast of Africa, approximately 500 kilometers away from Senegal.
Its territory covers a little over 4,000 square kilometers and it has a population of more than 500,000 inhabitants.
Cuba and the Cape Verde Islands established diplomatic relations a few months after the independence of that African country from Portugal, on July 5, 1975.
