After an investment that surpassed the $ 4.0000 dollars, the local ENERGAS project that is part of the mixed enterprise between Cuba and Canada and located in the surroundings of the Varadero tourist resort, retook the liquid sulphur production with which it is strengthened its environmental and business category that prefers the clean technologies.
Eloy Martines Saura, who is its general manager, commented that enterprise had to burn around 70.000 daily square meters in a big torch and that was a process that was leaving some combustion waste into the local environment.
“At present, that situation was solved and it gives us the chance about contributing with around 22 daily tons of liquid sulfur with a high percent of pureness to the Rayonitro enterprise that is an industry that includes it into its sulfuric acid process production.” Eloy Martines Saura pointed out.
With almost 17 years if having been inaugurated by the Commander, Fidel Castro, the ENERGAS process in Varadero tourist resort has favorable perspectives for the accompanying gas of oil that is delivered to a related center in the center region. This energy gas allows generating 175 megabytes of electricity into the national electric system (Unión Eléctrica).
The local ENERGAS S.A. project in Varadero region also obtains huge volumes of liquid gas from oil and naphtha which are sub products of an industrial use.
Winning of national prices due to the proper use of the environment, which were granted by the local Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba, the ENERGAS project eliminated with its beginning on December 2000 the then dangerous acid rains from 1980 decade in some areas of the Hicacos Peninsula as a consequence of the oil production.
