HAVANA, Cuba.- US solidarity-with-Cuba activist Karen Lee Wald received on Wednesday in this capital the Felix Elmuza medal, the highest acknowledgement granted by the Association of Cuban Journalists (UPEC).
During the ceremony held at the organization’s building in Havana, Jose Antonio Martin, its first vice-president, highlighted the journalistic work of Lee Wald, which has excelled in important international moments and events and highlighted the humanism and internationalism of the Cuban Revolution.
Also, he added, her work has been notable in the struggle to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US on Cuba for over a century now, and for the return to their homeland of the five Cuban heroes unfairly condemned in that country for fighting terrorism.
He pointed out that in these situations her texts and commentaries for the US public have contributed to break anti-Cuban campaigns and the wall of silence with regard to the island.
