The Cuban chess male squads could not achieve a good result recently to keep the lead position after having lost to the squads of France let alone the Cuban women chess team after having tied before the representatives of Turkey during the eighth round of competition at the World Chess Olympiad.
The tied result achieved by the Cuban representatives: Leinier Domínguez, Lázaro Bruzón and Yunieski Quesada, as well as the unexpected defeat of Isán Ortíz before Christian Bauer made favourable the winning result for the team of France and the Cuban team was placed then to the spot number 29th.
The victory registered by the new Cuban chess player representative Lisandra Llaudy before Kerdelen Lemhan raised false hopes about a possible Cuban women team’s victory against the host nation team as well as the tied results registered by Cuban chess players Sulennis Píña and Lisandra Ordaz, but Oleiny Linares lost to Emel Kaya and the women team that is coached by Walter Arencibia obtained then a lower 49th place.
Russia was then leading the men’s competitions with 15 points, closely followed by China, Armenia, the United States, Germany and the Philippines with 13 apiece and the Chinese female team had then 12 points. By Nolán Chacón
