Cuban academic Jesus Guanche on Thursday launched three books that analyze the Belt and Road Initiative beyond its economic-commercial nature, as well as its incidence on China's relations with Latin America and the Caribbean. The expert told Prensa Latina that the books are based on the results of several research works and are included in the syllabuses of some Chinese universities.

The books 'Puentes de Cooperacion. La Cultura Latinoamericana y Caribeña en la Iniciativa de la Franja y la Ruta' and 'China-America Latina and el Caribe: Memoria, Actualidad y Perspectiva' deal about the development of relations between those regions from different approaches.

They express ideas such as the thesis that Chinese sailors could have arrived in Latin America before 1492, and the evolution of diplomatic relations since 1960, when Cuba recognized the People's Republic of China.

Another issue is China's policy on Latin America and the Caribbean, the strengthening of trade in the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and other dimensions to collaborate in that corridor.

In that regard, Guanche mentioned the field of culture, the role of Confucius classrooms and institutes, Chinatowns and the Chinese diaspora in nations with which China does not have diplomatic relations.

For its part, the book 'Una Traducción Refinada de Poemas Selectos de Mao Zedong' is a joint work with two colleagues and compiles, for the first time, the literary work of the former Chinese president in mandarin, English and Spanish.

During the book launch, other personalities highlighted the objective of the Belt and Road Initiative as an alternative for balanced development in light of some powers' struggle to impose protectionism.

In addition, the Cuban Embassy decorated the University of International Studies of Hebei with the distinction that commemorates the 60th anniversary of relations between Cuba and China.
