President Miguel Díaz-Canel reaffirmed Cuba's denunciation of the U.S. offensive against the island, which seeks to subvert the Revolution through the intensification of the blockade and slanderous campaigns.
At the conclusion of the International Meeting of Solidarity with the island, which gathered in Havana more than a thousand delegates from 60 countries, the head of state said that with this siege, Washington aimed to provoke disappointment and dissatisfaction through economic asphyxiation, given the impossibility of weakening the support of the people for their government.
The Cuban leader affirmed that the reinforcement of this hostile policy with the implementation of 243 measures has an important impact on the Cuban economy and society amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
He explained that, among other issues, the blockade hinders foreign trade, the access to financing, and the capacity to attract investments. This results in inflation, high prices of products, and long queues to purchase them.
Simultaneously, the United States increased the defamatory campaign against the Revolution and manipulated the migratory issue in the search for political pretexts against Cuba, he said.
He denounced that this northern power stimulates irregular migration. At the same time, it closes legal ways for Cubans to travel and grants preferential treatment to those who arrive by irregular means.
He said that the U.S. government does not comply with the obligation contracted with Cuba in 1994 to grant a minimum of 20,000 visas and exerts pressure on third countries to demand transit visas to Cuban nationals to generate discomfort in the affected people.
In his speech, Díaz-Canel also reiterated Cuba's position in defense of peace in the world and warned about the resurgence of fascist ideas resulting from the alienation induced by media intoxication laboratories and campaigns of lies, double standards, and hypocrisy.
It is unheard of," he said, "that instead of focusing their efforts on saving the world, some nations encourage new wars that endanger the stability of the entire planet.
During this solidarity meeting, representatives of 219 organizations from all over the world expressed the support of leftist organizations and parties to the Revolution and the condemnation of the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade and the aggression against Cuba.
