U.S. Democrats Call for Noem\u2019s Resignation and Dismantling of ICE<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\nThe organizations denounced her for promoting \u201ca reckless and violent approach,\u201d citing the deaths of two U.S. citizens, Renee Good and Alex Pretti, during immigration raids in Minnesota in January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the letter, sent to Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson, they accuse Noem of being \u201cincapable\u201d of leading the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which has 250,000 employees, and of intentionally undermining the agency\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Organizations such as Voto Latino, Freedom for Immigrants (FFI), the Hispanic Federation, UnidosUS, and the Latino Victory Project noted that 187 legislators are co-sponsoring the initiative, which was introduced by Representative Robin Kelly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The accusations include obstruction of Congress by restricting access to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centers, as well as the unlawful use of lethal force against legal observers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since July 2025, DHS officials have shot 14 people in raids or protests, including four U.S. citizens, with three confirmed deaths, including those of Good and Pretti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The detention of minors is also condemned, such as that of Liam Conejo Ramos, a five-year-old boy arrested in Minnesota, which sparked national criticism of immigration tactics targeting children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the groups, ICE raids have affected U.S. citizens, denied detainees due process, violated court orders, and resulted in the unlawful detention of Indigenous people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Noem is accused of dismantling civil rights oversight at DHS and of lacking knowledge of basic concepts such as habeas corpus, the constitutional protection against arrests without cause.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
