The Independence Cup of Boxing will continue today in the Dominican Republic with the presence in the ring of two great Cuban figures: Olympic champion Erislandy \u00c1lvarez and double Olympic titleholder Julio C\u00e9sar La Cruz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00c1lvarez (65 kg) will face Esequiel Mart\u00ednez of Santiago tonight, while La Cruz (+90 kg) will fight Seht Lawrense of Barbados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Paris 2024 Olympic champion \u00c1ngel made a triumphant debut on Monday, defeating Miguel \u00c1ngel Encarnaci\u00f3n of the Dominican Republic\u2019s Team A 3-2 in one of the most anticipated fights of the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last night, Cuban Saidel Horta, the world runner-up, opened his participation with a victory in the 60 kg division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Horta won by a close 3-2 decision against local fighter Estrella \u00c1ngel, representing the Santiago team, in a highly technical bout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The head coach of the Cuban national team, Eulises Pouyout Despaigne, praised the performance of the Cienfuegos boxer to Prensa Latina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The tournament, which runs until Saturday, brings together boxers from Cuba, the United States, France, Ecuador, Guatemala, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, as well as the Dominican Republic\u2019s national teams A and B, and two teams from Santiago de los Caballeros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
