The interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodr\u00edguez, enacted the Amnesty Law this Thursday and stated that the legislation opens a door to Venezuela\u2019s reconciliation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis law opens an extraordinary door for Venezuela to reconcile and learn.\u201d to live democratically and rid themselves of hatred; let understanding and recognition prevail. The Amnesty Law goes further,\u201d Rodr\u00edguez declared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Indicating that those who approved the law are bringing hope to the country, the interim president maintained that \u201cwe are guaranteeing a future of peace and coexistence for our youth. It is an act of selflessness and greatness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Welcoming the opposition and Chavista deputies and noting the presence of many established political figures, as well as young people, she affirmed that \u201cwe are shedding intolerance and opening new avenues for politics in Venezuela.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She recalled that \u201cwe come from January 3, 2016, which will be recorded in history as a historic act of aggression by a superpower,\u201d noting that \u201cit touched our soul and conscience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On January 30, Rodr\u00edguez recalled, \u201cwe attended the opening of the judicial year, and I announced the Amnesty Law.\u201d She added, \u201cWe are very pleased to have you here, because it reflects a profound process of reflection.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is an important step to show Venezuela what we are capable of,\u201d the acting president emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also noted that politically motivated violence led to hate crimes and justified external aggression against Venezuela, and considered that the law\u2019s approval \u201chas demonstrated the political maturity of all those who participated.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She called on the Judicial Revolution Commission, the Venezuelan Parliament, and the Program for Peace and Democratic Coexistence to begin reviewing cases not covered by the Amnesty Law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI ask that we dedicate ourselves to that task,\u201d he added, and affirmed: \u201cWe need peace for Venezuela.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
