Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodr\u00edguez has defended his country\u2019s right to develop international economic and trade relations without interference from any government or nation, no matter how powerful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The island\u2019s foreign minister made it clear on his social media account that \u201cas a sovereign country, #Cuba has the willingness and the capacity to develop economic and trade relations with any nation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The head of Cuban diplomacy also argued that \u201cthis is how international trade should develop,\u201d while dispelling doubts in a clear allusion to the measures against his country from the White House, stating that \u201cthe government of a powerful nation should not have the prerogative or the capacity to dictate how and with which nations another state can develop its foreign trade.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The United States has maintained an economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba for more than six decades, along with a series of sanctions, restrictions, and a web of laws designed to pressure and punish those who establish any economic, commercial, or financial ties with the Caribbean nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This policy of harassment, aimed at strangling the Cuban people and provoking change in the country, has intensified to unprecedented levels under the current U.S. administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
