President Claudia Sheinbaum today announced the \u201cRepresent Mexico at the World Cup Opening\u201d contest to give away ticket number 00001, belonging to the president, to a young woman between 16 and 25 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe contest is called \u2018Represent Mexico at the World Cup Opening Ceremony.\u2019 Which ticket do you need? The President\u2019s ticket. It\u2019s this ticket, number 00001. I\u2019ll be here in the Z\u00f3calo with everyone watching the opening ceremony,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During her usual press conference, the head of the Executive Branch stated that \u201ca young woman who plays soccer is a great representative of our country\u201d and noted that \u201cvery few people will be able to attend\u201d the opening of the sporting event, to be held at the Mexico City Stadium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She explained that those who wish to participate must submit a video showcasing their soccer skills to the website mundialsocial.gob.mx between next Monday and April 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The winner will be chosen by a Selection Committee comprised of renowned international referee Katia Itzel Garc\u00eda, professional soccer player Charlyn Corral, and sports journalist Gabriela Fern\u00e1ndez de Lara, the first woman to commentate on Liga MX on national television.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regarding the contest, Garc\u00eda noted that the young women will showcase their talent in their videos to be part of the World Cup opening ceremony and thanked the President for opening a window of hope so that all girls who dream of playing soccer can make their dreams a reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Corral stated that she sees herself reflected in each of the young women participating with the hope of winning a ticket, since she learned to control a ball as a child and is currently living her dream of playing professional soccer and being a top scorer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fern\u00e1ndez de Lara mentioned that it is about opening new opportunities for women and noted that, with this initiative, the life of the winner and many other girls will change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The FIFA World Cup, to be held from June 11 to July 19, will be the first with 48 teams and will be hosted by 16 cities in North America: three in Mexico (Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey), 11 in the United States, and two in Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
