During the distribution of *Mujeres Bienestar* (Women\u2019s Well-being) Pension cards at the Compostela Sports Complex, the President maintained that the situation facing the Caribbean nation demands Mexican solidarity. She recalled the message disseminated on Saturday by L\u00f3pez Obrador on social media, in which he called upon citizens to participate in a fundraising drive in support of the Cuban people, via deposits to Banorte account 1358451779\u2014an account this newspaper had already publicized in recent days\u2014which belongs to the civil association *Humanidad con Am\u00e9rica Latina* (Humanity with Latin America), an initiative driven by the workers and contributors of *La Jornada*.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYesterday, President L\u00f3pez Obrador wrote something on his social media channels and said: \u2018I feel deeply pained by what is happening to the people of Cuba,\u2019 because for many years now, the United States and other countries have imposed a blockade on the Cuban people, preventing products from reaching them,\u201d Sheinbaum stated before hundreds of attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cRecently, they established another cordon to prevent oil from arriving. They are suffering, and they are a brotherly, close-knit people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She underscored that, despite criticism from sectors of the opposition, her government will continue to provide support to the island, as she considers solidarity with other peoples to be an integral part of Mexico\u2019s historical values. \u201cThere are those who say: \u2018I do not agree with the government of Cuba.\u2019 That is fine, but that need not be a reason for the people to suffer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In her message, the President linked this stance to what she termed \u201cMexican Humanism\u201d\u2014a concept which, she noted, was first articulated by L\u00f3pez Obrador during a rally held in Mexico City in 2022, and which, she stated, constitutes the ideological foundation of the Fourth Transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat philosophy is called Mexican Humanism, and it rests on two pillars\u2014one of which stems from the greatness of our Indigenous peoples, representing the very essence of our fraternity and solidarity,\u201d she affirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This tradition of fraternity, she highlighted, is reflected\u2014for instance\u2014in recent instances of community support during natural disasters across various states of the country, where \u201cI was able to witness the solidarity of our citizens, even in the midst of adversity. People\u2014even while suffering themselves\u2014would offer the little they had. \u2018Madam President, have you eaten? Here, take my tortilla.\u2019 That is not something you find in just any people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She maintained that humanism and solidarity are integral to the national identity, and that these values \u200b\u200bwill continue to guide the actions of her administration. \u201cWe should feel immense pride in being Mexican. We are an extraordinary, hardworking people\u2014always ready to lend a hand to our fellow human beings. That is what it means to be Mexican.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
