Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated this Thursday that her government will soon send aid to Cuba in the form of petroleum supplies; officials are currently analyzing various methods to bring this to fruition, particularly in light of the tightening of the blockade imposed by the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are looking at different approaches. We will provide an update shortly. We are exploring various possibilities,\u201d the President said during a press conference, while emphasizing that \u201cthe Right wing goes\u2014it goes crazy\u2014every time we say this: we are a sovereign nation, free to enter into trade agreements with any country in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also added that, regarding \u201chumanitarian aid at this time when the people of Cuba are suffering so greatly, we are therefore seeking mechanisms to continue assisting the Cuban people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mexican president reiterated that she \u201csupports the provision of humanitarian aid\u201d while responding to a question regarding the context of the massive power outages currently being experienced by the Cuban people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mexican government, led by Sheinbaum, has on three occasions dispatched Navy vessels carrying food and other goods to the Caribbean nation, and has affirmed that this support will continue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, last Saturday, former President Andr\u00e9s Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador invited Mexicans to deposit funds into an account established by private citizens\u2014including writers and journalists \u2014 for the purpose of purchasing food, medicines, oil, and gasoline to be sent to the people of Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On January 29, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order authorizing Washington to impose tariffs on goods originating from countries that supply oil to Cuba. This action by the occupant of the White House disrupted fuel supplies in the largest island of the Antilles, triggering an unprecedented energy crisis on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
