On Wednesday, Venezuela\u2019s Acting President Delcy Rodriguez appointed economist Johann Alvarez as minister of foreign trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe assumes this responsibility at a time when global trade dynamics are fundamental for the development of a productive, diversified economy and for promoting Venezuela in international markets,\u201d she posted on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Previously, Alvarez served as vice minister for foreign trade and investment promotion, representing Venezuela in international forums such as the World Trade Organization (WTO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Alvarez has also held strategic positions within the Venezuelan state, including president of the Banco del Tesoro and superintendent of the National Special Economic Zones, a role tied to overseeing development areas created to attract investment and stimulate production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Wednesday, Rodriguez also named Coromoto Godoy as Venezuela\u2019s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe trust in her experience and extensive diplomatic career to strengthen Venezuela\u2019s presence in the United Nations system, defending our interests and reinforcing cooperation in all international forums,\u201d the Acting President said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawyer Godoy is a career diplomat who has has served as ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, India and Spain. In 2024, she was appointed vice minister for Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
