Rallies in Tehran show support for political system amid U.S.-Israeli war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Wednesday, millions of Iranians commemorated the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Republic in Tehran\u2019s Revolution Square, where they chanted slogans against the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi attended the massive gathering. The mobilization took place on a historic date marking the referendum held March 30-31, 1979, when 98.2% of citizens ratified the creation of the Islamic republican system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event solidified the will of a people who decided to break with the monarchical and colonial past, marking a milestone in the Islamic Revolution led by Imam Khomeini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Held under security measures, the 2026 rallies demonstrated the strong support of Iranian society for its political system and its leaders. The commemoration carries considerable strategic relevance given the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran that began Feb. 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iranian authorities have denounced that foreign aggressions have caused fatalities and severe material damage to the country\u2019s infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say the attacks seek to undermine the stability of a nation that remains firm in defending its territorial integrity and revolutionary principles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to the U.S.-Israeli military ofensive, Tehran has carried out legitimate defense operations, using missiles and drones against targets in Israel and conducting actions aimed at facilities representing U.S. interests in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year\u2019s celebrations of the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Republic coincided with the funeral of Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Revolutionary Guard\u2019s Naval Forces. In Tehran\u2019s Engelab Square, Iranians bid farewell to Tangsiri, the architect of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, who was assassinated by Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNo surrender! No negotiation! Fight against the U.S.!\u201d was the cry that echoed at the Engelab Square, through which his funeral procession passed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
