Cuban President Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel denounced before U.S. Congress Members Pramila Jayapal and Jonathan L. Jackson the damage caused by the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a message posted on the social network X, the Cuban president reported that during the meeting he also reiterated \u201cour government\u2019s willingness to hold a serious and responsible bilateral dialogue and find solutions to existing differences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cuban president also outlined the consequences of the energy embargo decreed by the current US administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Democratic congress members made a five-day visit to the island as part of a US congressional delegation. At the end of their visit, they issued a statement demanding the immediate end to the fuel blockade, which they described as \u201ccruel collective punishment\u201d that amounts \u201cin practice to an economic bombardment of the country\u2019s infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Jayapal and Jackson, members of the House of Representatives for the states of Washington and Illinois, respectively, recalled that Washington prevented \u201ca single drop of oil from entering Cuba for more than three months\u201d and warned that this situation has caused permanent damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis situation must end immediately,\u201d the legislators demanded, stating that they had witnessed firsthand the problems caused by the lack of fuel, which affect basic services such as public health, water supply, and the education system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In their statement, published on Jayapal\u2019s official website, they noted that during the visit they listened \u201cto a wide variety of voices: families, religious leaders, entrepreneurs, civil society organizations, and representatives of the Cuban government,\u201d and that there is consensus across all sectors on the need to end the blockade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The congressional representives advocated for the need for the United States and Cuba to immediately enter into genuine negotiations that guarantee the dignity and freedom of the Cuban people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
