Senator Gloria Fl\u00f3rez, co-president of the Historical Pact, who was present at the arrival, emphasized that this flight is a fundamental action to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between the two nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe go with all our hearts to deliver medicines and food that can alleviate the current situation, but above all with the solidarity that is the tenderness of peoples,\u201d stated the Colombian official last Tuesday, April 14, the day the plane departed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to medical and food supplies, the cooperation will extend to the energy sector following President Gustavo Petro\u2019s announcement that Colombia is preparing to send solar panels to Cuba, thus adding to the photovoltaic systems previously provided by China for health centers and polyclinics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the arrival of this plane, Colombia reaffirms its support for Cuba in the face of the tightening of the US blockade. While the embargo against the island has lasted for more than six decades, recently, in a new attack against the Cuban government and people, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to sanction countries that attempt to supply oil to the Caribbean nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This measure, implemented on January 29, has resulted in fuel shortages, affecting the operation of essential basic services for the population. The energy crisis translates into prolonged blackouts that disrupt the cold chain for food and the functioning of hospitals, in addition to the paralysis of public transport and the logistics of distributing essential products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
