The 23rd National Assembly of the Ecuadorian Coordinating Committee for Friendship and Solidarity with Cuba begins today in the Andean province of Imbabura, to discuss the challenges facing the movement in the current context of threats to the Caribbean nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the slogan \u201cCuba is not alone,\u201d the meeting will bring together representatives from various sectors this Friday and Saturday in the city of Cotacachi, in the northern highlands of Ecuador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first day of the event includes a cultural performance called \u201cSong to Cuba,\u201d while tomorrow will feature debates, committee work, and the adoption of a final declaration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organizers indicated that the meeting will allow for reflection on the international landscape, marked by the intensification of the blockade against Cuba and the United States\u2019 threats of a possible invasion of the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, is also planned in the context of the centennial of his birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Assembly will conclude with the election of a new executive committee for the 2026-2028 term and the adoption of the Santa Ana de Cotacachi Declaration, which will compile the resolutions of the meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the assembly, attendees are also expected to express their rejection of the Ecuadorian government\u2019s decision last March to expel Cuban diplomats, a measure that the organizers attribute to alignment with Washington\u2019s foreign policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting will take place in parallel with recent expressions of support for Cuba in Ecuador, such as the exhibition \u201cAgainst the Blockade, Art in Resistance,\u201d inaugurated last week at the Ecuadorian House of Culture, whose proceeds will be used to purchase medicine for the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Len\u00edn Reyes, president of the Ecuadorian Coordinating Committee for Friendship and Solidarity with Cuba, denounced that the Cuban people are not only resisting the economic, financial, and commercial blockade, but also an energy embargo that aims to destroy the people and, through them, their Revolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
