Roderich Kiesewetter, a member of the German Bundestag and the parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, met with Akhmad Zakayev, the head of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria (ChRI), an organization banned in Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Russian ministry said that the German lawmaker welcomed anti-Russian activities carried out by ChRI terrorists and called on them to expand cooperation with Germany. Such cooperation includes recruiting Russian migrants residing in Germany to conduct acts aimed at destabilizing Russia\u2019s sociopolitical situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Moscow regards the meeting as irrefutable evidence that the German authorities are seeking to interfere in Russia\u2019s internal affairs and pose clear threats to Russia\u2019s national security. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
For years, Russia has considered CHRi leader Zakayev a terrorist and has sought him for his involvement in armed rebellion and his active support of Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This tension escalated significantly after the start of the special operation in 2022, when Zakayev formed battalions of Chechen volunteers to fight alongside Ukrainian forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2024, Russian authorities issued an arrest warrant for him and added him to their wanted list. Since 2022, Zakayev has resided in London, where he was granted political asylum in 2003.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
