Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced this Friday that Moscow is prepared to continue assisting Cuba in the face of the more than six-decade-long financial, commercial, and economic embargo imposed by the United States, exacerbated by the energy strangulation policy implemented by the White House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a bilateral meeting with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodr\u00edguez Parrilla, held on the sidelines of the BRICS foreign ministers\u2019 meeting in New Delhi, the Russian Foreign Minister \u201cexpressed his readiness to assist Havana in implementing its just demand for the immediate lifting of the US economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the island,\u201d according to a press release issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement adds that Lavrov \u201creiterated his readiness to provide Havana with the corresponding political, diplomatic, and material support amid this unprecedented escalation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the meeting, the two foreign ministers held a conversation \u201cin a friendly and constructive tone,\u201d in which they discussed key issues on the bilateral agenda and shared perspectives on international and regional matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both sides reaffirmed their opposition to the implementation of unilateral sanctions that circumvent the UN Charter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The US economic war against Cuba, and the use of unilateral restrictive measures to punish sovereign states in general, was also condemned during the BRICS foreign ministers\u2019 meeting. The member states of this group expressed their solidarity with the Cuban people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the BRICS foreign ministers\u2019 meeting, Rodr\u00edguez denounced the United States for the energy blockade and the threat of direct military attack imposed on his nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For more than sixty years, the United States has maintained an economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba, which has a negative impact on the national economy. According to a report by the Cuban Foreign Ministry, the accumulated damages from Washington\u2019s economic war against Havana exceed $170.677 billion. The White House recently intensified this siege with more coercive and unilateral measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
