Cuban President Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel rejected on Wednesday the accusations that blame his administration for the country\u2019s difficulties and denounced the continued existence of U.S. coercive measures aimed at hindering energy supplies to the Caribbean island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The president dismissed as unfounded the claims of those who deny the existence of an oil blockade against the nation. \u201cOnly the most twisted minds could deny before the world this collective punishment being exercised against an entire people, which is already becoming an act of genocide,\u201d asserted the president, who added that it is \u201cthe practice of that empire: to wage wars and exterminate peoples based on lies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The head of state based his complaint on social media, questioning the continuation of the executive order issued by the President of the United States on January 29, which allows Washington to impose tariffs on goods from countries that supply fuel to Cuba, directly or indirectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
D\u00edaz-Canel denounced the US Treasury Department\u2019s practice of maintaining active restrictions on hydrocarbon imports through its constant regulatory updates, and reiterated that these actions directly limit the island\u2019s access to essential financial and material resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Finally, he wrote: \u201cLift the blockade. And we\u2019ll see how we fare,\u201d reaffirming, once again, that \u201cthe homeland will defend itself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To the historical hostilities of the United States against Cuba have been added recent threats of military intervention and packages of unilateral coercive measures that reinforce the economic embargo against the island, which denounces the escalation and declares its commitment to peace, while also asserting that it will exercise its legitimate right to self-defense in the event of aggression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
