Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodr\u00edguez denounced on Tuesday at the UN Security Council the aggressive escalation by the United States government against his country and called for solidarity from the international community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCuba is not and cannot be a threat. It is not an enemy of the United States, nor does it want to be,\u201d stated Rodr\u00edguez, who spoke at the high-level ministerial meeting convened by China, which holds the rotating presidency of the Security Council this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The island\u2019s foreign minister called on \u201cthe international community to mobilize to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe\u201d in the face of \u201cthe energy blockade, military threats and political manipulation against the Cuban Revolution.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized that the United States government, \u201cin effect, is in a position of undermining international peace and security and violating international law and international humanitarian law with respect to the Republic of Cuba.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further stressed that \u201cthe filing of criminal charges against the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Ra\u00fal Castro Ruz, is a morally infamous and legally arbitrary act.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez warned that \u201cit is a politically motivated, fraudulent decision aimed at deceiving U.S. and foreign citizens 30 years after the events.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe oil and energy embargo that the United States imposes on Cuba is equivalent, in its effects, to a naval blockade, which is an act of war and genocide,\u201d added the head of Cuban diplomacy, who insisted that \u201ca military aggression would provoke a bloodbath.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rodr\u00edguez stated that \u201cthe President who gave that order for a military attack, and the Secretary of State and Secretary of War who instigated it, would go down in history as war criminals, direct perpetrators of crimes against humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe time has come for solidarity with Cuba, which has always been solidarity with everyone,\u201d the foreign inister declared before the United Nations Security Council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Urging the UN to fulfill its role in maintaining peace, he called on the organization to do its part regarding Cuba and asserted: \u201cLet no one doubt that, should a situation arise\u2014one we hope will never occur\u2014the Cuban people will fight to the bitter end.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting, which included the participation of UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, addressed the defense of the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations and the strengthening of the international system centered on the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
