Bruno Rodr\u00edguez Parrilla, Cuba\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs, was received at the UN on Tuesday by Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, during his visit to New York to participate in the Security Council session. There, he requested the multilateral organization\u2019s contribution to halting a US military aggression against Cuba and to ending threats of the use of force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through his official account on the social network X, the Cuban foreign minister reported that during the meeting he reiterated Cuba\u2019s commitment to international peace and security, multilateralism, cooperation, and respect for international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The island\u2019s top diplomat also explained to Guterres Cuba\u2019s rejection of \u201cthe infamous, fraudulent, and illegal indictment against Army General Ra\u00fal Castro Ruz,\u201d announced on May 20 by the U.S. Department of Justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Bruno Rodr\u00edguez informed the Secretary-General about \u201cthe grave humanitarian situation facing the Cuban people, a direct consequence of the extreme intensification of the blockade by the U.S. government, with additional measures, secondary sanctions, and a brutal energy embargo.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cuba\u2019s foreign minister had denounced hours earlier before the Security Council that the energy embargo is equivalent in its effects to a naval blockade, \u201cwhich is an act of war and genocide,\u201d and constitutes \u201ca cruel and indiscriminate collective punishment\u201d that has led to a doubling of the infant mortality rate and a reduction in the life expectancy of children with cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite Washington\u2019s aggressive escalation, the foreign minister reiterated \u201cCuba\u2019s willingness to continue bilateral talks with the U.S. without interference in our internal affairs, political system, or elections.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cuba has repeatedly reiterated its willingness to engage in respectful dialogue with the United States based on sovereign equality and non-interference, even though the Trump administration has intensified coercive measures, including the energy embargo and the inclusion of the island on the unilateral list of state sponsors of terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During his stay in New York, the Cuban Foreign Minister also held a bilateral meeting with the President of the UN General Assembly, Philemon Yang, with whom he discussed issues on the multilateral agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
