However, regional success is concentrated among three giants: Brazil, with five titles; Argentina, with three crowns won by Mario Kempes, Diego Maradona, and Lionel Messi; and Uruguay, a two-time champion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While Brazil has 23 World Cup appearances, reigning champions Argentina will make their nineteenth appearance, and Uruguay will reach their fifteenth tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Further down the list are Chile, with nine appearances but absent from the last three editions, and Paraguay, which will return in 2026 after a 16-year absence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This century has seen the rise of new contenders: Colombia will compete in its seventh World Cup, and Ecuador will celebrate its fifth participation. The list is completed by Peru, with five appearances, and Bolivia, with three participations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The only South American team without a World Cup appearance remains Venezuela, which is aiming for its debut in 2030. Meanwhile, the expansion of the format to 48 teams granted CONMEBOL six direct qualification spots and one playoff berth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
