The leader of the Communist Party of Chile, Juan Andr\u00e9s Lagos, considers the blockade of Cuba, currently maintained by the United States, and in particular the oil embargo, to be a crime against humanity against an entire people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHere, all limits have been crossed,\u201d said Lagos in an interview with Prensa Latina, in which he addressed how the measures imposed by Washington after January 29 affect everything from surgical procedures and medical treatments to food supply chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He recalled that US President Donald Trump and his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, do not hide their intentions to strangle the Caribbean nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThat\u2019s inhumane, it goes against international law,\u201d he denounced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lagos pointed out that, despite the tightening of the blockade, the Cuban people and their government continue to resist, and right now the country is developing a cancer vaccine, just as it did during the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Elsewhere in the interview, the journalist also addressed the recent US indictment of the leader of the Revolution, Ra\u00fal Castro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lagos condemned the illegitimate legal maneuver against a figure like Ra\u00fal, who, along with Fidel, spearheaded a humanist project in Cuba, but also in other parts of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
South Africa still thanks Cuba for its help in ending the apartheid regime, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that, during difficult times, when the dictatorship was in power in that country, many Chileans received help from the island, and also during earthquakes, with the deployment of medical brigades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ra\u00fal Castro spearheaded the process that led to the declaration of Latin America as a Zone of Peace, and it was under his presidency that negotiations took place in Havana to end the armed conflict in Colombia, he recalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So how can they accuse a person with that stature and that concrete track record in the struggle for peace? he asked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Juan Andr\u00e9s Lagos also addressed the United States\u2019 threats of military aggression and taking control of Cuba. \u201cI agree with a statement made by the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, when he said that a declaration of war against Cuba would be a declaration of war against all the peoples of our continent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regarding a recent interview with the Chilean President, Jos\u00e9 Antonio Kast, in which he endorsed armed action against Cuba, Lagos said that the president sided with war, which is extraordinarily serious in a country like Chile, which has championed international law, peace, and dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
