U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has once again resorted to lies and slander to attack the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), an institution that for more than six decades has been a bridge of brotherhood between Cuba and the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statements by the U.S. secretary of state were denounced by the Hero of the Republic and president of ICAP, Fernando Gonz\u00e1lez Llort, in a forceful message published on his Facebook profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cThe world is used to hearing his lies, which don\u2019t hold up, except for the sole purpose of intimidating and frightening the important solidarity force that has supported and accompanied our country since the triumph of the Revolution.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
The recent statements by the high-ranking U.S. official seek to discredit an organization that has been recognized worldwide for its humanitarian work and its unwavering defense of Cuba\u2019s right to exist as a free, sovereign and solidarity-based society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the president of ICAP, Marco Rubio \u201cis deeply bothered that friends of Cuba and honest people of goodwill are raising their voices against the genocidal and criminal policy of U.S. imperialism, which collectively punishes an entire noble and courageous people who are fighting for their legitimate right to development and to live in peace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It is no coincidence that this attack comes at a time when international solidarity with Cuba is reaching unprecedented levels. Caravans of friendship, educational and cultural collaboration projects, and the growing global rejection of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by Washington for more than 60 years are evidence that truth prevails over slander.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gonz\u00e1lez Llort was emphatic in reaffirming that ICAP \u201cwill remain steadfast in fulfilling the mission for which it was founded more than 65 years ago.\u201d He concluded with a phrase that encapsulates the essence of Cuban resistance: \u201cSolidarity cannot be blocked.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The words of the ICAP president not only represent the institution\u2019s official position, but also echo the sentiments of millions of people across all continents who, from social organizations, unions, political movements, and ordinary citizens, reject the imperialist blockade against Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
