Cuban Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, ruled out that the disconnection of the National Electric System (SEN) on Tuesday was due to operational errors and highlighted the technical capacity of the Electric Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In statements to the press, the minister also denied that the situation was attributable to an exodus of workers from the sector, although he acknowledged that, as in any organization, there is a staff turnover, which does not imply a \u201closs of expertise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized that workers are working tirelessly and diligently to restore the SEN, which went down at 11:05 a.m. local time as a result of the shutdown of the Felton 1 Unit, which caused a fluctuation in the system parameters with a sudden change in frequency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister elaborated that the current situation is fundamentally due to an electrical system severely affected by the blockade and, in particular, by the executive order issued by US President Donald Trump prohibiting oil imports to Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Levy emphasized that the country is experiencing a total fuel shortage and \u201cwe have no access to spare parts for our thermoelectric units or for those of Energ\u00e1s,\u201d he stressed in statements published by the Cubadebate digital portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Regarding the situation of the National Electric System (SEN), he specified that some units are online at the Energ\u00e1s Boca de Jaruco plant and that they have reached Santa Cruz del Norte to begin heating up the thermoelectric plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He commented that some areas in Havana already have electricity, where the batteries recently installed in Cotorro are regulating the frequency to continue the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Havana Electric Company, in its latest update, reported that 19 substations and 30 distribution circuits have restored service, benefiting 90,496 customers, 10.5 percent of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Similarly, 25 hospitals have electricity and three water supply pumps are operational.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the recovery of the National Electric System, the establishment of a microsystem in the central province of Camag\u00fcey was also announced, and the October 10 Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE) in Nuevitas is in the process of being restarted, which will allow for the gradual restoration of service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cuban Minister of Energy and Mines, in his statements, warned that, following the National Electric System outage, the situation of the boiler at the Guiteras Thermoelectric Power Plant is being studied. The boiler has a structural weakness, and the extent of the damage is being assessed before a decision is made, which will be communicated to the public in due course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He explained that it must be allowed to cool down to determine if the repair \u201cwill take two, three, four days or however long it takes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
