{"id":12246,"date":"2026-07-27T18:32:06","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T22:32:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiorebelde.cu\/english\/?p=12246"},"modified":"2026-07-27T18:32:10","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T22:32:10","slug":"venezuela-wins-taekwondo-gold-at-central-american-caribbean-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.radiorebelde.cu\/english\/venezuela-wins-taekwondo-gold-at-central-american-caribbean-games-27072026\/","title":{"rendered":"Venezuela Wins Taekwondo Gold at Central American &amp; Caribbean Games"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Monday, Venezuelan athlete Yohandri Granado won the gold medal in the men\u2019s under-63-kilogram taekwondo category at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>RELATED:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telesurenglish.net\/mexico-cuba-and-colombia-lead-the-central-american-and-caribbean-games\/\">Mexico, Cuba, and Colombia Lead the Central American and Caribbean Games<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the victory, the Paris 2024 Olympian ended a more than decade-long gold medal drought for Venezuela in the sport, a regional milestone that had not been achieved since Adriana Martinez\u2019s triumph in 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Granado secured the top spot on the podium by defeating Mexico\u2019s David Millan 2-1 in the final after overcoming Nicaragua\u2019s Aldo Blanco in the semifinals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decisive bout began with the Mexican representative taking the lead after winning the opening round 3-0 with a head kick. However, the Venezuelan adjusted his offense in the second round, landing three body kicks to claim a 6-3 victory and force a deciding round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the final round, a technical penalty (Gam-jeom) against the Mexican competitor decided the match, with Granado prevailing 3-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Santo Domingo games also produced positive results for the rest of the Venezuelan delegation in the combat sport.
