The National Assembly of Nicaragua, along with authorities from the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity, members of the Central American Parliament, the Sandinista Youth 19th of July, representatives of the Diplomatic Corps and accredited international organizations, as well as officials from the Cuban Embassy, \u200b\u200bheld a day of commemoration this Sunday for the 73rd anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de C\u00e9spedes barracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Cuban Embassy in that Central American nation, as stated on its Facebook page, as part of the commemorative activities, floral offerings were placed at the Monument to the Heroes and Martyrs in Revolution Square in Managua, as a sign of respect and recognition for those who gave their lives for the independence of nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Later, the participants marched from the emblematic site to the Assembly building to hold a Special Session in honor of July 26th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the ceremony, Cuban Ambassador Iliana Fonseca Lorente emphasized that the date constitutes an event of profound historical significance for Cuba and Latin America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She recalled that the young protagonists of that epic movement assumed the responsibility of realizing the emancipatory ideals of National Hero Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed, under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The diplomat paid tribute to the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution in the context of the activities leading up to the centennial of his birth, and affirmed that his legacy remains relevant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fonseca Lorente stressed that the Cuban people today face another decisive battle: the defense of their sovereignty against the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States government, exacerbated by the energy embargo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In that regard, he reaffirmed that the Revolution remains steadfast, resisting and advancing in the defense of the Homeland, independence, and national sovereignty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The commemorative event constituted a further expression of the bonds of friendship and solidarity that unite Cuba and Nicaragua, as well as the support of the Nicaraguan people and government for the cause of the Cuban Revolution and the defense of their right to build their future free from external interference, the publication concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
