It was at a meeting in the Casa del Pueblo (People\u2019s House), headquarters of the Socialist Party of Uruguay in Montevideo, where grassroots members of the Broad Front (Frente Amplio) commemorated the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution on his birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFiel taught us to look to history, to our roots, for the reasons to resist the reinforced blockade that is killing people on the island,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized how Fidel transformed the legacy of Jos\u00e9 Mart\u00ed into the essence of Cuban nationality, principles, and traditions, including the internationalism and solidarity that Cuba practices and receives today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, representing the Antifascist International, Gerardo Su\u00e1rez outlined the global situation marked by the structural crisis of capitalism and its aggressive imperialist actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He emphasized that the US superpower had proven itself defeatable militarily by Iran, while economically, China is taking off due to its industrial and technological growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n\u201cThey are coming for our oil, lithium, copper, water, our natural resources, and they want to seize them by force, as they did on January 3rd against Venezuela.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey are also doing this through the genocidal blockade against Cuba, whose example of rebellion they intend to exterminate through deprivation of its people,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on behalf of the Vivian Tr\u00edas Foundation, Luis Vignolo highlighted the celebration of Fidel Castro\u2019s 100th birthday alongside the bicentennial of the Amphictyonic Congress convened by Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar in Panama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She paraphrased the Cuban leader and his appeal to Bol\u00edvar: \u201cLet us make Bol\u00edvar\u2019s ideas a reality because alone and divided, we will fail.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Law professor Mar\u00eda Luisa Bategazzore emphasized the fraternal and political relationship between the Cuban revolutionary leader and the historic general secretary of the Communist Party of Uruguay, Rodney Arismendi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fidel is the continuator of the struggles for independence on the continent; he is the continuation of Artiguism, she asserted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She highlighted the didactic power of the Cuban leader\u2019s discourse, his battles against apartheid and colonialism in Africa, for healthcare in various countries, including Uruguay, which benefited from Mission Miracle, and against the uncollectible external debt of the so-called Third World.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And she concluded: solidarity with Cuba is a moral, political, and strategic duty. \u201cWe do it for ourselves as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a finale, the documentary FIDELidades, about the life of the Cuban Commander-in-Chief, was shown on screen, followed by a song by the young Uruguayan troubadour, Ra\u00fal Lemos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
