Members of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) on Sunday condemned the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States government on the island, during the national event commemorating the 66th anniversary of the organization founded by Fidel Castro and Vilma Esp\u00edn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In every home, community, and workplace, the impact of this genocidal policy is felt, a policy that women, in particular, face daily, as is the case of Yuniesky Camallea Garc\u00eda, mother of a child with a medical condition that requires specialized treatment with a drug that is not produced in the country and must be imported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s when politics becomes human suffering, she asserted at an event presided over by Teresa Amarelle Bou\u00e9, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Party and general secretary of the FMC; Maryd\u00e9 Fern\u00e1ndez L\u00f3pez, member of the Central Committee and head of its office for the Union of Young Communists and mass organizations; and the highest authorities of Pinar del R\u00edo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI don\u2019t need to be told what the blockade is; I experience it firsthand with my son. It\u2019s not an abstract concept; it has the cruel face of a pharmaceutical company that refuses to sell medicine for fear of Washington\u2019s fines; it has the coldness of a bank that freezes transactions with which Cuba tries to purchase medical supplies,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And, as Amarelle Bou\u00e9 affirmed, this genocidal policy continues to hinder the country\u2019s development and the daily lives of Cuban families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The prolonged power outages disrupt family, community, and work life. It is often women who must find ways to prepare and preserve food, and respond to the many needs that arise when basic services are disrupted, she noted at the celebration held in the Hermanos Cruz People\u2019s Council in Pinar del R\u00edo province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also highlighted the role of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), \u201cborn from the demands of our mothers and grandmothers, and founded by Fidel and Vilma, aware that without women\u2019s participation, the Revolution would not be possible,\u201d said the general secretary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She emphasized that, in the midst of such an adverse context, the women of the centennial generation of the Commander-in-Chief are capable of finding solutions and keeping hope alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As Mar\u00eda Elena Cabrera, a tobacco farmer from Pinar del R\u00edo, does every day, preserving one of the traditions of the province that is the largest producer of tobacco leaves on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen there is no fuel for the tractors or for irrigation, and spare parts are a luxury that the blockade denies us, we are there, looking for solutions to reinvent ourselves every day,\u201d she emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the national event, recognition was given to the provinces that stood out in the emulation for the 66th anniversary of the Federation, and to Pinar del R\u00edo, National Vanguard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
