Meta knows about the damage they caused, and we will hold them accountable in Florida,\u201d he posted on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFlorida didn\u2019t join the Meta settlement. The payouts are peanuts compared to the profound harms Meta\u2019s profit-driven addictive features inflicted on kids, and a slap on the wrist for a trillion-dollar corporation that\u2019ll pay more to lawyers than to the states. We\u2019ll see them at trial.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTrying to wipe out a decade of harm to the nation\u2019s youth with one month\u2019s cash flow is an insult. Corporations like Meta will never learn a lesson if they don\u2019t incur real costs for breaking the law,\u201d Uthmeier stressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lawsuits have also accused the company of misleading the public about the dangers of its platforms, ignoring the harm caused to young people\u2019s mental and physical health, and violating the Children\u2019s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by collecting data from minors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Previously, Meta accepted the settlement to avoid prolonging the litigation but denies the allegations and any liability.
