Qalibaf reiterated that Iran will not allow oil tankers to transit through the southern route near the coast of Oman because its use contradicts the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the United States on June 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Qalibaf\u2019s warnings came a day after the U.S. attacked Larak Island. Iran responded with attacks against U.S. bases in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates, in the first exchange of military hostilities in a month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Baghaei Condemns EU Support for U.S. Economic Operation Against Iran<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nOn Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei condemned the EU\u2019s support for a U.S. economic operation against Iran, saying that Europe could no longer claim \u201cstrategic autonomy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Baghaei made the remarks in a post on the social media platform X in response to an EU statement issued Monday at the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting in Asheville, United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The EU said it \u201cwelcomes efforts (aimed) at ensuring that Iran ceases its destabilizing activities and engages in peace negotiations with good faith, also through additional economic pressure, including through the U.S.-led Operation Economic Outcast.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEurope can no longer speak of \u2018strategic autonomy\u2019 while merely executing Washington\u2019s orders,\u201d Baghaei pointed out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Aug. 19, U.S. President Donald Trump announced what he called \u201cthe most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country,\u201d warning that countries providing a lifeline to Iran would face \u201ctremendous economic consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
