Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandr Grushko ruled out, for the time being, a break in diplomatic relations with Germany, which he accused of choosing \u201cthe path of escalation.\u201d \u201cWe will give diplomacy a chance, but diplomacy is a two-way street,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the German actions are linked to the country\u2019s domestic politics. He also dismissed the accusations as lacking evidence and described the incident as a fabrication. The Russian leader suggested that the government is prioritizing confrontation with Russia over Germany\u2019s national interests, given the chancellor\u2019s low popularity at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe chancellor is in a difficult political position. He does not enjoy the confidence of his citizens. And it is clear why: because he does not defend the national interests\u2026 Companies are closing, people are losing their jobs and the standard of living is falling. It is not clear why all this is being done. They can only explain it by the need to counter an aggressive Russia\u201d Putin said at the end of his participation in a summit in Kyrgyzstan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Russian leader stressed that, \u201cgiven the decline in approval ratings and the upcoming election campaigns, including in Saxony, for example, the question naturally arises about the political future of Germany\u2019s ruling elite.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
