{"id":12989,"date":"2026-09-09T12:54:14","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T16:54:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiorebelde.cu\/english\/?p=12989"},"modified":"2026-09-09T12:55:04","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T16:55:04","slug":"unicef-cuba-promotes-green-jobs-in-the-sugar-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.radiorebelde.cu\/english\/unicef-cuba-promotes-green-jobs-in-the-sugar-sector-09092026\/","title":{"rendered":"UNICEF Cuba promotes green jobs in the sugar sector"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The United Nations Children\u2019s Fund (UNICEF Cuba) has announced that, through partnerships with UN agencies, a project is underway in the country to promote green jobs for young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The initiative, as the organization explained on its Facebook page, is being implemented through the Green Jobs for Youth Pact, with the participation of the International Labor Organization for Latin America and the Caribbean, the United Nations Environment Program, and UNICEF, in coordination with the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sugar sector was selected as a strategic entry point for a pilot program that links technical and higher education with green skills development and the creation of sustainable jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to reports, the Technical and Vocational Education system, in conjunction with the Fructuoso Rodr\u00edguez P\u00e9rez Agrarian University of Havana, trained 25 trainers\u201420 teachers and specialists\u2014to integrate green competencies into education related to the sugarcane value chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project aims to advance the development of a national methodology for identifying, classifying, and certifying green jobs, as well as providing decision-makers, teachers, and local stakeholders with the necessary tools for the green transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also seeks to integrate green competencies into technical education, higher education, and business training programs, with the goal of making existing jobs more sustainable through new technologies and responsible practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the initial results are the training of 40 green job managers, including 27 women, the training of 25 participants in the trainer program, and the evaluation of 15 units in the sugar sector to identify opportunities for improvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UNICEF Cuba shared images of a joint visit to the Melanio Hern\u00e1ndez sugar agro-industrial company in Taguasco, Sancti Sp\u00edritus, as part of the follow-up to the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">[ SOURCE: AGENCIA CUBANA DE NOTICIAS ]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United Nations Children&rsquo;s Fund (UNICEF Cuba) has announced that, through partnerships with UN agencies, a project is underway in the country to promote green jobs for young people.
