Cuba defeated the Dominican Republic 3\u20130 today to win the bronze medal at the Men\u2019s NORCECA Volleyball Continental Championship and secure the final qualifying spot for the 2027 World Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the Avenir Centre, the Cubans dominated the match with set scores of 25-22, 25-19, and 26-24, authoritatively closing out a tournament in which they had already defeated the Dominicans by the same scoreline during the group stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The victory also tasted like redemption following yesterday\u2019s setback against Canada, who shut out the Cubans 3-0 in the semifinals and advanced to play for the title on home soil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cuba built its win on the attack, holding a 41-29 advantage; they also outperformed their opponents in blocking and serving while capitalizing on the 11 errors committed by the Dominicans compared to their own 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Miguel \u00c1ngel L\u00f3pez and Marlon Yant contributed 11 points each, as did Robertlandy Sim\u00f3n, who once again served as a key offensive force for a squad that found the composure in decisive moments that had been lacking the day before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the Dominican Republic, Adri\u00e1n Figueroa led the scoring with 15 points and H\u00e9ctor Cruz added 10\u2014efforts that proved insufficient against a Cuban team that firmly closed out the third set just as the match threatened to drag on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Third place secures Cuba the last of the three spots awarded by the tournament for the 2027 World Championship, joining finalists Canada and the United States, who will vie for the title today in Moncton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the Cubans, however, the bronze medal is merely the first chapter of an ongoing rivalry; after a rest day, they will face the Dominican Republic again on Friday in the semifinals of the NORCECA Olympic qualifier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The winner will advance to Saturday\u2019s final\u2014where a direct ticket to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games will be on the line\u2014in yet another battle between two teams that know the path separating them all too well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
