The Cuban delegation left the Assembly hall after listening to Trump, who called Cuba a \u201cfailed state\u201d and asserted that \u201cit will eventually fall.\u201d The U.S. president maintained that his administration seeks a \u201cfundamental change\u201d in Cuba, led by his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump also accused the island of \u201ccoordinating\u201d for decades with communist networks and leftist groups in the US, including the Communist Party, Antifa\u2014which he designated as a terrorist organization\u2014and the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For months, the Trump administration has pressured Cuba to comply with a series of demands, including liberalizing its economy, open itself to U.S. companies, buy U.S. oil, and expel Russian and Chinese authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Cuban leaders have stated on several occasions that the country is unwilling to make these concessions. Cuba is scheduled to speak at the General Assembly next Saturday, with a speech by Foreign Minister Rodriguez.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During his speech, Trump also attacked Mexico, asserting that although he maintains a \u201cvery good relationship\u201d with its government, the country is \u201cthe epicenter\u201d of cartel violence. \u201cIt is unacceptable that the United States shares a 2,000-mile border with territory controlled by enemy cartels,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
