\u201cLet the United States government know that freedom arrived in Cuba on January 1, 1959, and we are not going to lose it; we are going to defend it,\u201d stated Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel Berm\u00fadez \u2014 First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic \u2014 on Wednesday during the premiere broadcast of the program \u201cCriterio Compartido\u201d (Shared Criteria) on Radio Rebelde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the program, the Cuban leader assessed the remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding Cuba at the United Nations as overbearing, arrogant and interventionist \u2014 rooted in the contempt felt toward the Cuban people and the Cuban Revolution for what it represents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey always want to portray us as a failed state to absolve themselves of blame for the genocide they are committing,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On his X account, the head of state wrote this Tuesday that Washington\u2019s characterization of the island as a threat seeks to justify its genocidal economic war against the Cuban population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
D\u00edaz-Canel maintained that resorting to lies reflects a refusal to accept the Caribbean people\u2019s right to self-determination, and he reaffirmed that the country will continue to defend its sovereignty while working to overcome the ruthless aggression imposed by the North American nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In light of this, the Caribbean leader reiterated that the blockade is the true threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodr\u00edguez Parrilla noted on the same social media platform that the U.S. government is incapable of accepting Cuba as an independent and fully sovereign nation. Bruno Rodr\u00edguez dismissed the accusations leveled at the multilateral body as falsehoods and slander, insisting that the island poses no threat to the United States or any other country, whereas the current economic restrictions and energy blockade do indeed threaten Cuba and other nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is an act of genocide and collective punishment; we are a peaceful country and deserve peace,\u201d emphasized Cuba\u2019s top diplomat, noting also that this blockade has been systematically rejected by the vast majority of the international community in various forums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These statements led the Cuban delegation to walk out of the United Nations meeting hall in New York in protest during the U.S. President\u2019s address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his speech, the current occupant of the White House made statements interfering in the archipelago\u2019s internal affairs and acknowledged his administration\u2019s \u201cmaximum pressure\u201d policy against Havana to justify the \u201cfailed state\u201d narrative, while predicting the country\u2019s imminent collapse under the weight of the imposed siege.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
