{"id":13457,"date":"2026-10-02T14:06:06","date_gmt":"2026-10-02T18:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiorebelde.cu\/english\/?p=13457"},"modified":"2026-10-02T14:06:09","modified_gmt":"2026-10-02T18:06:09","slug":"cuban-president-assesses-the-social-impact-of-economic-changes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.radiorebelde.cu\/english\/cuban-president-assesses-the-social-impact-of-economic-changes-02102026\/","title":{"rendered":"Cuban president assesses the social impact of economic changes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cuban President Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel held a meeting with representatives from government bodies, institutions, and associations, as well as neighborhood leaders and other stakeholders directly involved in the economic and social transformations currently underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the discussion, the president reiterated the government\u2019s premise that economic growth is meaningless unless it has a direct impact on social development, according to a report published on the Presidency\u2019s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor us, it makes no sense to generate economic wealth if it does not impact and support social programs\u2014and, above all, if that wealth is not distributed based on the concept of social justice,\u201d D\u00edaz-Canel stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He emphasized that social justice is precisely what gives a socialist character to the 176 economic and social transformations the country is implementing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSocial justice is what distinguishes us from the \u2018shock policies\u2019 of capitalism\u2014the kind adopted by those who attack us, blockade us, and impose an energy embargo on us,\u201d the head of state reflected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meeting highlighted the pivotal role played by the people and their grassroots organizations in implementing these changes within communities, as well as the social responsibility that must be assumed by both state and non-state economic actors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The President of the Republic stressed that these transformations have followed a consultative process that began with the membership of the Communist Party and the Young Communist League, and extends to workplaces and communities, where neighborhood organizations play a fundamental role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding the importance of oversight and popular participation, D\u00edaz-Canel underscored that institutions linked to the social sector must ensure that economic liberalization does not exacerbate inequalities and that structural changes benefit the most vulnerable sectors.
