Foreign Minister Bruno Rodr\u00edguez described Operation Carlota as an example of the internationalism and solidarity of the Cuban people toward Africa, as Thursday marks the 51st anniversary of the beginning of this military feat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The head of diplomacy for the largest island of the Antilles stated on his X account that this event represents one of the most glorious chapters in Cuban history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cResponding to a call from Angola, more than 300,000 Cubans took part in an epic undertaking that solidified Angolan independence, put an end to apartheid in the southern part of the continent and led to the liberation of Namibia,\u201d Bruno Rodr\u00edguez added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He recalled the words of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, spoken upon the conclusion of the Cuban military mission in Angola: \u201cOur combatants began their return to the homeland with their heads held high, bringing back with them only the friendship of the Angolan people, the weapons with which they fought \u2014 with modesty and courage \u2014 thousands of kilometers from their own country, the satisfaction of a duty fulfilled, and the glorious remains of our fallen brothers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cEternal honor and glory to the heroes and martyrs of that endeavor,\u201d the message concluded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Operation Carlota, which took place from November 1975 to May 1991, paved the way for Angola\u2019s definitive independence, as well as the liberation of Namibia and the defeat of the South African apartheid regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This feat strengthened the bonds of friendship and solidarity between the Caribbean nation and Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
