{"id":5468,"date":"2024-05-24T21:17:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-25T01:17:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiorebelde.cu\/english\/?p=5468"},"modified":"2024-05-24T21:17:02","modified_gmt":"2024-05-25T01:17:02","slug":"namibia-advocates-removing-cuba-from-washingtons-so-called-terrorism-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.radiorebelde.cu\/english\/namibia-advocates-removing-cuba-from-washingtons-so-called-terrorism-list-24052024\/","title":{"rendered":"Namibia advocates\u00a0removing\u00a0Cuba from Washington&#8217;s so-called\u00a0terrorism list"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The National Assembly of Namibia strongly condemned the inclusion of Cuba by the United States on its list of State sponsors of terrorism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consequently, the lower house of the Namibian bicameral parliament demanded the elimination of Cuba from that unilateral and unfounded designation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement to this effect, the legislature recognized the \u201csubstantial contributions of the people of the Republic of Cuba to international peace and security.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Likewise, the Assembly underlined \u201cNamibia&#8217;s commitment to international justice, equity and respect for the sovereign rights of nations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Namibian legislators recall in the text how on May 15, Secretary of State Antony Blinken presented a report to Congress in which he excluded Cuba from his list of countries that allegedly do not fully cooperate with the anti-terrorist efforts of the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the Namibian Assembly resolution highlights, the US government continues to unfairly label Cuba as a \u201cState that sponsors terrorism,\u201d an approach that, it emphasizes, \u201chighlights the inconsistency and political nature of the designation process.\u201d of the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This designation, the legislators highlight, not only misrepresents Cuba&#8217;s actions, but also serves as a pretext to impose coercive economic sanctions that severely impact the Cuban people in humanitarian and economic aspects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These punitive measures by Washington, they add, limit Cuba&#8217;s ability to participate in international trade and access essential goods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its declaration the National Assembly ratified the unbreakable solidarity with Cuba; the historical and lasting friendship between both peoples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They also recalled Cuba&#8217;s support for Namibia during its struggle for independence and the permanent cooperation between the two nations in various fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Consequently, they urged the international community to unite to support the people of Cuba with a view to their exclusion from the arbitrary US list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On April 16, the National Assembly of Namibia unanimously adopted a motion that demands \u201cthe cessation of the inhumane and unjustified economic blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba and its citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the occasion, he also demanded the \u201cimmediate elimination of Cuba from the list of States sponsoring terrorism and the prompt repeal of economic sanctions against the Cuban people,\u201d and demanded the immediate and unconditional closure of the US base in the Cuban territory of Guantanamo Bay.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Assembly of Namibia strongly condemned the inclusion of Cuba by the United States on its list of State sponsors of terrorism.
