Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations has denounced Israel for its use of phosphorus bombs in its wars against Lebanon and Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amir Saeid Iravani on Thursday asserted that such actions amount to a war crime, urging the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to initiate an international investigation against the Zionist entity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to supporting the independent, impartial, and professional work of the OPCW. \u201cWe call for the full, effective, and non-discriminatory implementation of the Convention. Iran will spare no effort to realize the objectives of this vital instrument,\u201d Iravani said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSecond, the Syrian Arab Republic has complied with its obligations under the Convention, having destroyed its chemical weapons stockpiles and production facilities. Also, it continues its constructive engagement with OPCW, demonstrating its steadfast dedication to transparency and full compliance with its responsibilities,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn this context, the Syrian National Committee has submitted three comprehensive reports over the past three months. It has participated in the 28th round of consultations with the Declaration Assessment Team and provided requested information, documents, and clarifications to facilitate the resolution of outstanding issues,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAs such, Syria has extended the tripartite agreement with the OPCW and the United Nations Office for Project Services for an additional six months,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is essential to recognize the significant progress in Syria\u2019s cooperation with the OPCW and ensure that such developments are evaluated fairly and without politicization or bias,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, Iravani emphasized Syria’s substantial cooperation with the OPCW, which reflects its commitment to transparency and full compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He called upon it to conduct its operations with strict neutrality, professionalism, and a consistent, evidence-based approach to establish facts and reach credible conclusions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe support continued constructive dialogue between Syria and the OPCW to address any outstanding issues and achieve a comprehensive resolution. This process must be guided by transparency, accountability, and impartiality,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shortly after the October 2023 attack, Human Rights Watch said it had verified footage taken in Lebanon and Gaza showing multiple uses of artillery-fired white phosphorus over the Gaza City port and two rural locations along Lebanon\u2019s border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
